what is generally the life expectancy of a patient that has cancer of the pancrease?

Other Cancer
My boyfriend of six years just found out in July 2005 that he has pancrease cancer. He has already had chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Unfortuantly it did not work at all so the doctors tried a different form of chemo but that too failed as it made him so weak he couldn’t hardley get out of bed. If anyone has any suggestions that may help it would be appreciated.

Honey, I am sooo sorry for you! My uncle had pancreatic cancer and I’m sorry but he died from it shortly after he was diagnosed (about 8 months). He went from a big (6’4") strong guy to one that couldn’t move out of bed. He was in his 50′s though. Hopefully since your boyfriend is younger and they caught it (in stage 1 or 2 I hope?) he will be able to fight it and win!
I wish you the best of luck sweetie!

My friend passed on from this type of cancer. It was a very painful one and I have a friend who was just diagnosed and he was given 3-4 months on the short side and 8 months on the long side. Fortunately, miracles do happen. Sorry about your friend. You both will be in my prayers.

Hi! First off, ANYONE who tries to dictate someone else’s life expectancy should jump in the lake. Only your boyfriend’s spirit (higher self) has the power to make that decision. I personally believe that chemo and radiation is awful poison, as is any medication. I’ve studied alternative therapies for years and I believe it’s his bet bet. I’m talking about color therapy, aromatherapy ("Abra" detox baths are a God send, the link is below), herbs, acupressure, chakra therapy etc. There is a wonderful product that’s ahead of it’s time called "Color bath". It’s a Canadian based co. The link is below.I’ve know many who’ve had cancer and LOVED this product. If you’d like, you can email me for more details. In regards to the bathes, you can just fill a little bowl with HOT water and a small amount of either color mix OR detox mix and soak up a towel with the stuff (the color bath WILL stain the towel-use an old one)and use it as a compress over the pancreas. You could use both bathes, alternating over the course of the day. Color-wise, he needs yellow. Yellow is the color for that chakra. If you don’t understand something, please, please email me. Good luck AND please email me!

Pancreatic is a tough cancer. The two of you should sit down with a good doctor who is willing to be a listener. Have a conversation about the balance you both would like to strike between aggressive treatment and comfort. If he’s already gone through chemo, I’m sure you both have experienced what it’s like. On the other hand, people can walk away cured from pancreatic cancer.
I wish you didn’t have to face it, and I’ll say a prayer for you both. Stay positive :)

What stage of pancreatic cancer does your bf have? Did he use gemcitabine during chemo treatment? Also, where on the pancreas is it located? Is it resectable?
If you haven’t already, go to mdanderson.com. They are one of the leading cancer centers in the country. My father in law went through a clinical trial at UCSF. He recently lost his battle, but I would love to be able to help someone else.
Good luck!
